Despite the state of the economy, many design business are flourishing. For example, Relative Space and Floorworks - a Canadian custom-design wood flooring and carpeting company - is celebrating the first anniversary of its New York showroom and the expansion their of the Toronto location. The upgrade of the Toronto office will include interior design firm Commute Home.
Both Relative Space and Commute Home work with architecture and design firms that include Ian Schrager Hotel Group, Thompson Hotel Group, Rem Koolhaas, David Rockwell and Philippe Starck.
The expanded Relative Space and Floorworks collections include textiles from Carpet Concepts, Jab and Vorwerk, as well as new flooring from Fuse and Luminoso.
The new modular carpet tiles from Vorwerk contain no PVC and are hypoallergenic, thereby reducing issues of indoor air quality. The product is also lighter than traditional tile, reducing the energy expended by shipping, while acting as an insulator.
