Apple has developed a following and made millions through its technologically-advanced gadgets, but artists are now banking in on Steve Jobs' creations as well. Photographer and graphic designer Michael Tompert has spent months collecting Apple products, but not for the same reason as most consumers - he destroys them upon purchase.
Tompert, who had his photographs on display in San Francisco, wanted to make Apple lovers think about their relationships with their gadgets. The designer had destroyed everything from iPhones to iPods for his project. He smashed the pieces, melted them and even took a sledgehammer to some, according to the Los Angeles Times. Many people questioned how Tompert could destroy new, expensive products, but he said it was all a part of his message.
"They had to be a brand-new product," Tompert told the news source. "It's not about destroying old products. It's about our relationship with the new."
Art-related jobs are projected to increase by 12 percent over the next eight years, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
