Google doodles catch the eyes of millions of Internet users every day, but some of the most educational sketches are those that commemorate historical people and events.
Recently, the popular search engine launched a doodle to celebrate the birthday of Paul Cezanne, a French painter that had a large influence on modern art, according to the Christian Science Center. On the date that Google displayed the drawing, Cezanne would have been 172 years old.
"Beauty, stillness - but no calm," journalist Jonathan Jones wrote about the artist in The Guardian, according to the news source. "The fascination of Cezanne lies in the overwhelming emotion that threatens to explode at any second from the white rocks of a hillside, the steely imperturbability of a peasant's face. He is the first modernist and, as Picasso knew, the most liberating."
Art experts say that although Cezanne's work is recognizable for its fruits and vases, many of his pieces can be broken down into simple geometric shapes. His Post-Impressionist style is thought to have influenced a number of painters, including Pablo Picasso.
Employment of artists is projected to increase by 12 percent over the next seven years, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
