Many mobile application developers hope that their creations become popular with users, but few anticipate them to become household names. Rovio, the Finnish company responsible for developing the Angry Birds game, recently announced that it is toying with the idea of expanding the app.

Industry analysts speculate that Rovio may develop Angry Birds into an animated series for television or the internet, according to the New York Post. The app, which was developed for iPhone and iPod Touch users, has been downloaded more than 50 million times.

"It was a completely new area for us; we had to get our bearings there, and a sense of how the whole market was," Mikael Hed, Rovio CEO, told C21media.

Last year, Rovio struck a marketing agreement for the Angry Birds app, leading industry experts to believe that a motion picture or animated series was in the near future. Hed has yet to say whether the animated version of Angry Birds will be on the internet or television.

Employment of multimedia artists and animators is predicted to increase by 14 percent over the next seven years, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
