Number of projects for architects rises slightly from January to February

Prospective architects may be pleased to know that the billings for people and companies in this field are slowly increasing, according to American Institute of Architects (AIA). The AIA regulates the Architecture Billings Index, which is set at 50. Anything above that number is positive and anything below it indicates a decrease. The recent report shows it went up 0.6 this year from January to February.
The AIA determines the index number by surveying architectural companies that are a part of the association. AIA chief economist Kermit Baker suggests that the overall employment is still not favorable, but he believes that it will eventually reach that level.
"We still expect the road to recovery to move at a slow, but steady pace," Baker said.
Degree seekers in this field may be able to feel hopeful. In addition to the positive data from the AIA, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that the number of architecture design jobs is expected to increase by 16 percent between 2008 and 2018, which is a faster rate than the average for all other careers.
