As the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton approaches, the buzz of the event continues to grow. In lieu of the hype, the Washington Post issued a contest for aspiring fashion designers around the country to design a royal wedding dress.
The Post recently announced Becky Schupp of Montana as the winner. Schupp designed a classic, elegant dress with a modern twist. The ivory dress has long sheer sleeves with the remainder of the dress covered in heavy silk. In addition, there is a light pink ribbon that wraps around the waistline, which adds a little bit of color, according to the news source.
The designers submitted their dresses between February 18 and March 11. After that, readers of the newspaper voted for the top five finalist out of 56 entries. According to the Post, 25-year-old Schupp received 38.2 percent of the vote.
Kate Middleton has kept what her wedding dress will look like away from the public but has expressed that she prefers simple and elegant.
