Design school hosts first festival in May

Parsons the New School for Design is planning for its first festival that will contain approximately 100 events across the campus throughout the month of May, according to Dexigner.
The festival will run through May 7-23 and will feature an all-day block party, and screenings of music and art performances, experimental installations, new furniture ideas and exhibition highlighting the styles of the fashion design program. In addition, there will be panel discussions about including eco-friendly designs and the meaning of fashion design on a culture, according to the media outlet.
"We are opening our doors to the public to showcase the talent found here at Parsons, but also to celebrate the future of art and design," Joel Towers the executive dean of Parsons told the news source.
The school is one of many that have design programs across the country. The National Association of Schools of Art and Design accredits an estimated 300 different institutions with programs in these fields, and fashion design is offered at the majority of them, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
