The Barbie doll has been a facet in many young girls life's for the past 50 years and the Barbie's dream house has also made its way into many homes. It was recently announced that the American Institute of Architects (AIA) will be joining Mattel in deciding the best new Barbie Dream House design, according to the AIA website.
The contest has a set of criteria including the use of sustainable principles, an office, living room and dining rooms.
"Some still consider architecture an unusual profession for a woman," Despina Stratigako, an architectural design professor at the University of Buffalo, told the news source. "Architect Barbie salutes the many generations of women architects and encourages young girls to imagine a better world they can design and build.''
Architects have until June 27 to submit their designs. AIA and Mattel will decide the top five and then it will be up to the public to choose the winner, and they will be announced on August 2, the media outlet reports.
In addition, the architect Barbie, which is called Barbie I Can Be... Architect, was recently created earlier this year. The AIA also consulted with the designers of the Barbie to ensure the Barbie looked the part, according to MediaBistro.com.
