A small jewelry designer was claiming that the retail store Urban Outfitters had stolen their design, but after further investigation, it does not seem that the design was that original to begin with, according to the Consumerist.
The independent jewelry designer named Stevie said that the retail store stole her design of a cut out heart in the middle of different states across the country. However, after looking into the debacle, her designs, which she sells through truche Etsy page, looks similar to various other designs. Lawyers even found the artwork on display in necklaces as far back as 2008, which is before Stevie owned her shop, according to the news source.
Individuals who are interested in creating their own jewelry, and coming up with their own creations, may have the opportunity to make that dream a reality. Prospective jewelry designers can expect to run into keen competition upon completion of their degree programs, but the job market is expected to increase by 5 percent between 2008 and 2018, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
