Sustainable architecture, which is term for buildings which are made from eco-friendly materials,at feels like something of the future has become a reality, according to the Mother Nature Network.

To find out if a building was made with eco-friendly products, an individual needs to look for a LEED certification. LEED is Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design is a non-profit that rates buildings and structures as green facilities or not. They are decided based on the site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials used and indoor environmental quality, according to the news source.

Architects are using this in some of their work as the world becomes more environmentally aware and educated. As the demand for this type of building strategy increases, it is believed that eventually this will be the only way to build, the media outlet reports.

Prospective architecture designers who are interested in using sustainable products during their careers may get the opportunity. Employment in this field is expected to increase by 16 percent from 2008 and 2018, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
