Architecture company awarded for sundial building

The Austin Peay State University in Tennessee has a new building and the designers of that structure recently received the prestigious Merit Award from the American Institute of Architect's Gulf States Region, according to the Clarksville Online.

Tom Bauer and his team at Bauer Askew Architecture PLLC were the winning designers for the new building, which is for engineering technology students. It was built with sundial technology that took months to research and incorporate successfully.

"We loved this very successful marriage of campus vernacular with high-tech showplace," one of the judges stated to the news source. "This project perfectly suits its pedagogical purpose, with its [laboratory] on beautifully choreographed display. We felt that the clever solar panel sundial is destined to become a campus landmark."

Prospective architects may want to know what the job outlook will be when they graduate from their design degree programs. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment in this field is expected to increase by 16 percent between 2008 and 2018.
