This year's Industrial Designers Society of America's Design Excellence Award was given to GE Healthcare for their new and innovative Magnetic Resonance Imaging device.
The company explained their gratitude, and how the most direct way to explain a product is through its design.
"When we asked our GE Global Design group to visualize our patient centered strategy and to help humanize radiology through an iconic design for the new generation of wide bore MRI systems, that is exactly what they did - they created a look and feel that makes patients feel at ease when they undergo an MR exam," said Jacques Coumans, the general manager.
The winner of this award was chosen out of 2,000 entries from 39 countries around the world.
Individuals who are interested in industrial design may get the chance to show off their skills through their career. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment for professionals in this field is expected to increase 9 percent between 2008 and 2018.
