A new library in Walnut Creek, California, recently received the prestigious Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) award for sustainable material design, according to the Walnut Creek Patch.
The library, which was built July 17 of last year, was honored with this award for building's Energy Star- rated roof, storm water management systems, daylight harvesting controls, use of recycled materials in the architecture design and efficient ways of heating and cooling the building, according to the news source.
The award, which is given by the U.S. Green Building Council to buildings that are able to incorporate sustainable materials into their architecture, has not been given to any other buildings in Walnut Creek thus far, the media outlet reports.
Individuals who are interested in architecture design and are looking into creating eco-friendly structures may be able to land a job once they graduate from their graduate programs. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment for professionals in this field is expected to increase by 16 percent between 2008 and 2018.
