Architecture design students from Texas A&M were able to help rebuild the town of Las Lomas while residents attempt to start businesses, according to the university's newspaper, The Battalion.
"My work since the days when I was writing my Ph.D. focused on what role cities play in producing new forms of culture, and I found that it's in the cities' newest peripheries and outskirts where the most interesting things emerge," Peter Lang, an architecture professor, told the news source.
The community wanted to make a candle-making business in order to produce some income for the town, and these students were able design a space to make this happen, the media outlet reports.
Prospective architecture designers may want to know how much they will be earning once they earn their degree in their design programs. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the annual median salary for professionals in this field in 2008 was around $70,000. However, the top 10 percent of professionals made more than $120,000 in the same year.
