The beginning of September is a popular time for people to pack up and change residences, and those who are moving into their first apartment may want to know some great ways to design it. Vanessa Holden, creative director of West Elm, told the Boston Herald some important tips for first-time apartment dwellers.
Holden suggests to add navy blue into the mix, as this hue has become the new popular neutral color and can add a lot of character to a space. Also, adding accents that are a little unexpected may be the perfect way to combine classic design with the person's personality, according to the media outlet.
She adds that it is imperative to keep things simple, as it makes the space look put together and not overdone.
"There's an interesting shift away from, 'I'm going to present my home as a showpiece' to 'I'm going to live my life the best way I can,'" Holden told the news source. "It's less precious, less stuffy."
Prospective interior designers may want to know what the job market will be like once they graduate from their design programs. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment for individuals in this field is expected to increase by 19 percent between 2008 and 2018.
