The Urban Design Week Festival will start off in New York this week. The festival is attempting to join the ideas of residents and of architects and other designers to develop new ideas for New York City, according to WNYC.
Michael Sorkin, an architect and president of the Institute for Urban Design, explained that not all of the proposed projects will be possible - like ziplines across the East River - but several ideas can be developed due to people's insights, according to the media outlet.
"Both their direct experience of sites and their freedom from conventional thinking can get out there with great proposals," Sorkin told the news source. "We hope to continue this, and not to gather just a database of nice suggestions like 'I need a bus stop on my corner,' but a bank of actual palatable, visual, even practical proposals."
Individuals who are interested in architecture may be able to land a job once they graduate from their design programs. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment for professionals in this field is expected to increase by 16 percent between 2008 and 2018.
