The reality TV competition and hit show, HGTV Design Star, ended its sixth season last night, and 34-year-old interior designer, Meg Caswell, was named the winner. The prize is her own show on the network.
The winner is chosen by the four panelists - Vern Yip, Genevieve Gorder, Candice Olson and David Bromstad.
"Meg embodies so many unique qualities," said Yip. "The moment you meet her she instantly puts you at ease, explains design in an entertaining way and has an evident design talent that blossomed into something stunningly beautiful over the course of the season. I'm really looking forward to seeing her new series!"
The Chicago, Illinois, native explained that she couldn't have been happier with being chosen. Caswell will now star in a five-episode series titled HGTV Great Rooms, in which she will transfer old kitchens and great rooms into perfectly designed spaces.
Individuals who are interested in interior design may be able to land a job once they graduate from their design programs. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment for professionals in this field is expected to increase by 19 percent between 2008 and 2018.
