Second designer chosen for home decor competition

Teenlike.com, an ongoing online competition for young home decor designers, announced its second winner. Brandon Dover of Apply Valley, California, was this year's winner, as he created an abstract pen and inkwork design for a bedspread. The prize of winning this award is that his print will be manufactured and sold.

"I hadn't really thought about it too much until I stumbled upon Teenlike on Twitter, investigated what it was all about, and then looked at my own plain bedspread and thought 'Whoa! So true!,'" Dover said. "I thought it was an excellent idea and anxiously awaited for the competition to start. I was trying to think of a design that would look great and resonated what Teenlike was all about and then I thought, 'Fluid!'"

Dover added that he thought "fluid" was an idea that many teens his age would understand and be able to relate to because its movements reminded him of breaking free and choosing something that they would really like to express themselves.

Before this competition, Dover has been creating similar designs for T-shirts.

Kanye West to perform during Paris Fashion Week

West will be showcasing his work towards the end of fashion week, on October 1, and many are looking forward to it, according to the news source.

It has been reported that the theme of West's show will involve samurais with sport garments and luxury fabrics with Japanese style embroidery. He has teamed up with fashion designer Katie Eary, and the two have been working on the collection for the past four months. Interior design company sweeps IDEA awards

A Richmond, Virginia, based design firm, Visible Proof, has garnered many of the top honors during the IDEA awards luncheon.

The interior design company won six first place recognitions, plus an additional honorable mention in one of the categories they won in. They earned these awards in the custom category for Collaborative Tables at the Martin Agency, retail category for the Sweet Spot candy shop, corporate category for the Martin Agency creative space renovation and both residential categories - both under and over 3,500 square feet, and singular space category for the work they did on a family game room.

"It was so gratifying for us after a really long year of hard work," said the founder of the company, Kristi Lane.

Young designer dresses 'Glee' star for Emmy Awards

Heather Morris, who plays Brittany on the hit Fox television series "Glee," walked down the red carpet at the Emmy's wearing a deep blue gown with a plunging neckline and sprial construction. It looked couture and chic, and it was made by a 22-year-old fashion designer fresh out of college, according to the news channel KTSM-TV.

Masai Payan is from El Paso, and since moving to Los Angeles after finishing his degree last year, he has created more than 30 pieces. He has worked with celebrities before dressing Morris as well, including Alyssa Milano, Kathy Griffin, and Kristin Chenoweth, and he doesn't plan on stopping any time soon, the media outlet reports.

"[I'm] following with what I've been doing and starting my own business and let's see where it goes from there," Payan told the news source.

Detroit holds first annual design festival

The festival will include more than 80 events around the city in approximately 50 different venues. Everything from fashion design to architecture will be displayed and discussed. Painters will gather with other artists and host shows involving both ideals, the media outlet reports.

Matt Clayson, the director of the festival, told the news source the the intention of the festival "is to build markets and exposure for designers and creative practitioners in the city."

He added that he hopes it will be fun, and if it is deemed successful than they hope to hold the event again next year.

Boston Fashion Week finally gets a tent

Boston Fashion Week is coming up, and one thing that many designers in the area wanted was an actual tent for fashion designers to show their creations properly - on a runway. They finally got their wish. According to the Boston Globe, this year marks a first where a 3,000-square-foot tent, which will sit between the Prudential Center and the Mandarin Oriental hotel, will be the venue for various runway shows.

Even though the price of the tent was not cheap, investors made it happen, and now fashion designers, well-known or unknown, will be showing off their best creations, according to the media outlet.

"I'm sick of people rolling their eyes and complaining about fashion in Boston," Marie Galvin, a local hat designer, told the news source. "It has improved dramatically and there are great newcomers here. This is a big step toward showing that."

According to the Boston Herald, the spokeswoman for the Mandarin Oriental hotel, Edwina Kluender, expressed that this tent would have never been a factor if the designers and residents didn't believe that Boston was capable of putting on such a show.

"We're offering $5,000 and a year-long membership to Angie's List to find the best local help to make your nightmare bedroom a dream come true," Angie Hicks, founder of Angie's List the nation's premier provider of consumer reviews, told the news source.

Individuals who are eligible need to submit a photo of the room they dispise. The top 25 will be listed on the Angie List's Facebook page, where fans are able to vote for the worst one. The voting goes from September 26 to October 10, and the winner will be announced October 12, the media outlet reports.

New interior design show on HGTV

There is a new show on HGTV called Design on a Dime, which helps transforms ordinary rooms into beautifully decorated spaces.

The host, Casey Noble, originally got her degree in fashion design at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. She helps redecorates rooms into aesthetically pleasing spaces without breaking the bank. Her fresh new ideas can be portrayed in a variety of homes across the country.

Even though Noble, who earned her spot as host after winning Design Star on HGTV, designs high-end luxury-looking rooms on the show, her style tends to be slightly different.

"I think most of my personal style is very southern California, that sort of L.A. beach thing," Noble said. "I live at the beach. I'm very, very tied to the beach."

Fashion designers showcase their work during show

Aspiring fashion designers have the opportunity to show what they are capable of during the Norwich Fashion Week in England. The show will feature design students work over the years, and they are challenged to find their creative style throughout the process, according to the Norwich Evening News.

The six students who will be starting off the week's events are from Norwich University College of the Arts (NUCA).

"Through the partnership with Cancer Research UK, students were briefed to be experimental and challenge creativity within their work," Sue Chowles, course leader of the BA Hons Fashion course at NUCA, told the news source. "Using key words such as metamorphosis, inside out, upside down and back to front, students were encouraged to take risks, develop technique and produce conceptual and directional fashion."

The Norwich Fashion Week starts up this Thursday, the media outlet reports.

Roksanda Illincic continues to impress

Fashion designer Roksanda Illincic has officially made a name for herself, as many awaited her collection during London Fashion Week yesterday, and viewers loved what they saw, according to the Associated Press.

Illincic has had many well-known clients over the years including first lady Michelle Obama, Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton, Emily Blunt and Gwenyth Paltrow.

"It's no surprise she is attracting big name clients," Avril Graham, Harper's Bazaar executive fashion and beauty editor, told the news source. "Roksanda is one of my own personal favorites on the London design scene. Her understanding of real women and silhouettes designed to flatter is perhaps the key to her success. Her collections are packed with must-have, tasteful numbers."

This is the fourth year that Illincic has contributed to London Fashion Week, but this is the first year that she was not labeled an "up-in-coming" designer, rather one that has already made it in the industry, the media outlet reports.
