University of Miami

The combination of traditional photography, alternative methods, and digital imagery is the centerpiece of our undergraduate program. Our goal is to provide our students with technical excellence by stressing strong intellectual, emotional and critical content. Students are given a working knowledge of the camera, darkroom and studio techniques. Individuals are encouraged to express themselves freely and form value judgments on images they know from both theory and personal experiences.

BA - 120 Credits (36 Credits in Art, 15 in Major); BFA - 120 Credits (72 Credits in Art, 21 in Major)

Photography/Digital Imaging (MFA):

The Graduate Program encourages and supports individuals to experiment within a curriculum, which is interdisciplinary. In order that the student will graduate well rounded, not just in his chosen field, his prospectus should contain all the necessary courses to be taken. Student will work with a diverse faculty at the University.

Other areas of possible exploration from other departments include philosophy, feminist theory, and music or architecture. These can allow students that have an interest in these subjects to integrate them into their work. The program ends when a unified collection of work is displayed at the MFA Exhibition and a written thesis that discusses the work and process is completed.
