Columbia College Chicago

One of the most exciting and largest Photography programs in the country is located here at Columbia College's Photography Department. In addition to innovative practical courses, you will also have a solid background in the history of the medium, theory and criticism. An active program with Workshops, Exhibitions, Lectures, Publications, Visiting Artists, and Internships is offered by the Photography Department.

Classes are based in the history of photography and its processes, and branch out to cover a variety of digital imaging courses at the leading edge of today's technology. Students can get to grips with the basics of photography technique, both in theory and criticism. Using black and white and color, in either the darkroom or other settings by following a foundation course.

Experimental processes, historical and critical technique, aesthetics, digital imaging technology, documentary, photojournalism, studio photography and professional practice are dealt with by advanced courses. Students will earn either a B.A. or B.F.A. One can choose to minor in the discipline.

Our master of fine arts program combines advanced technical training in photography and aesthetic and expressive development. Students are prepared to be successful professionals and fine artists. We offer a separate darkroom and cutting edge facilities to the students in our graduate program.
