Waubonsee Community College
There are three separate rooms in a traditionally styled photo lab including the darkroom, a film loading room, and a lighted work area. There are 14 enlargers in our darkroom that students may use in order to make black and white silver gelatin prints, employing chemical processing. In the daylight work area, students can develop film and practice their print finishing techniques like drying and toning. Our film loading room makes it possible for students to load film into development tanks as well as do other processes that require total darkness. Here at WCC, traditional photography courses are still required for all photography enthusiasts.
24 Mac Pro computers with the latest software from Adobe, which includes Photoshop CS3, is equipped in the digital photography lab. Students that are using 35 mm cameras will also have two Nikon Coolscan film scanners at their disposal. For scanning images larger than 35mm film, there are 2 Epson flatbed scanners and one state-of-the-art Imacon Flextight 848 film scanner that can scan all film sizes up to 4"x5". For students with digital cameras, the lab is equipped with card readers.
The WCC digital photo lab has high quality printers available when students are ready to print their images. Our facilities include 2 Epson R2400s for printing images 13" wide, and we shall shortly be taking stock of 2 Epson 4800 which can print images 17" wide. You can eve print out 44" inches wide photos using our Epson 9800 printer!
