University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth
The photography program is an introduction to interacting with the professional photography world after a student's graduation. In today's world, experts are required in both the traditional and digital marketplaces. Therefore, photography students are expected to master state of the art imaging techniques at the same time that they are encouraged to express their individual artistic vision in pursuit of professional aesthetic standards.
The primary objectives of each level of the program are to develop individual style, technical excellence, aesthetic sophistication, and to deepen students' understanding of expressive communication.
Courses, generally consist of labs, lectures, guest lecturers, discussions, slide presentations, and readings on a number of photographic subjects, which include career issues and issues of professional ethics. To obtain admission, the submission of a portfolio is required, as outlined in the University General Catalogue. This is necessary besides all other UMass Dartmouth admissions procedures.
