Cleveland Institute of Art
Photography majors work toward a multitude of professional opportunities. In fine arts are film and video or commercial endeavors in which students utilize the camera as both an aesthetic and research tool. Individuals are provided with an exceptionally rich and varied background in the techniques, aesthetics, and possibilities of photography via a diverse and comprehensive exploration of relevant media. Each person will develop their own unique relationship with photography through lessons, lectures, critiques, and one-on-one conversations.
Three courses available: Fine arts photography, film and video photography, and applied professional careers are available for students to choose from. <>/p>
Our instructors and guest artists present interdisciplinary instruction and unique exploration to all students in every track within the major. Studies take place in a large, building that is well-equipped and ready to provide all tools necessary for the students. Held within are film-based color dark rooms and also black and white dark rooms. There is a fully equipped digital imaging and printing lab. It has the facilities of both video and 166 mm film editing and computing facilities. Each student has an individual studio space and access to exhibition areas.
Students will develop technical mastery of professional imaging equipment, all digital and film formats, studio lighting, digital manipulation and enhancement techniques. Familiarity with film and video, digital editing and special effects are essential to the study of both still and moving imagery.
