Portfolio Center

Picture-takers and image-makers make up the photography world. At the Portfolio Center, we focus on turning talented individuals into producers of commercial photography. The goal of the photography program is to have students develop into qualified photographers.

The focus of the whole program is on the shooting side of photography. A variety of techniques are used to train the students; including those involved with small, medium and large cameras.

Students are taught to shoot in both available lighting from their natural environment as well as studio lighting situations. Training in preparing and styling on location as well as in the studio are given. Students are well versed in the photography of both people and products. They have competence in such different fields as advertising photography, architecture, and editorial photography.

Our students are competent in both color and black and white photography, as well. While the darkroom doesn't hold the highest priority in this program, students should, however, be highly familiar with darkroom technique. Presentation methods and advertising photography are included in the course of study.

The Portfolio Center is housed in a two-story brick building. There is a large open studio, three computer labs, a library, and the administrative offices on the first floor along with the classroom areas. Classrooms are well lit and, depending on the needs of the class, furnished with folding chairs and tables. On the lower level of the facility, you will find photography resources, a classroom, spacious working area, a conference space, administrative offices and student services. Students are permitted to laminate artwork in the student Services area.
