Although Nebraska was once considered part of the "Great American Desert", people who lived there did not accept that idea and create irrigation systems that made Nebraska a profitable land for farming. Nebraska is known because of its slogan "Where the West Begins", because there is a point in a street-cross of Lincoln where is an "x" marking the 100th meridian.
