Best Practices in Web Design Program: A 7-week comprehensive program covering best practices in web design based on current mark-up, presentation, and accessibility standards. Topics include XHTML; Cascading Style Sheets (CSS); DOM scripting; accessibility; separating content from presentation; table-free layouts; accommodating legacy browsers; Document Type Declaration; validation; converting existing documents. Lectures will be complemented by hands-on lab work. The program will be taught in the Windows environment, though the information and techniques covered apply to all computing environments. Each participant will be provided with a variety of software including HTML and CSS editors and validators for the duration of the program. Experience with Web design and tag-level knowledge of HTML is required to take full advantage of the curriculum. This program makes use of the School of Computer Science, Telecommunications and Information Systems' Course OnLine (COL) technology, which captures all lecture elements (audio, visual, whiteboard, and classroom PC) and makes it available for online viewing. Only enrolled students have access to view this material and it is only available while the program is in session. Course Credit: The Best Practices in Web Design Program is an accredited course of DePaul University, which follows the quarter system (as opposed to the semester system). Credit hours: 4 undergraduate The credit hours are awarded to those who successfully complete the program's academic requirements. Course requirements consist of individual web design assignments. No quizzes or exams are given.
