Based on identified occupational needs, the mission of the Web Design program is to prepare high school students and adults to be academically competent, to be occupationally proficient for employment, and to have a sound foundation for continued learning. # All Web Design students will demonstrate proficiency on the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) and earn National Skill Certificates; ie. National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI) and Pennsylvania Skill Certificates. # All Web Design students will successfully transition on to a 1st career job and/or related post secondary training. # All Web Design students will be proficient in their career major and demonstrate proficiency through hands-on performance and theoretical testing. Using Windows-based operating systems, the curriculum presents web site elements, including web page preparation, programming, design, maintenance, and updating. The program builds upon a foundation of Internet concepts, including browser basics, file transfer protocol (FTP) and information resources. The study of layout and design consists of creating page templates, designing effective frames and tables, planning site navigation, understanding web typography, graphics, color and publishing/maintaining web sites. Programming focuses on HTML, XML and JavaScript. A look at visual and graphic design teaches students how to incorporate color techniques, use layers to finesse an image, create special effects with layers, take digital photos and enhance images using Adobe Photoshop image-editing software.
