Web Site Design Program: This specialized diploma 16-credit program provides hands on training and experience in designing compelling and functional web sites. Taught in NCC's state-of-the-art Macintosh computer lab, with a 24/7 high speed Internet connection students will work with top line professional graphic designer software. These powerful tools are widely used at major companies, advertising agencies, corporate communication departments and leading educational institutions. The Web Site Design program provides an introduction to the full cycle of creative web site design and development, as is most commonly found within industry today. The students will take original design concepts from PhotoShop and Illustrator, into ImageReady for processing, and then intoDreamweaver for building the finished web site. Working with Dreamweaver's powerful WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) interface, students will quickly learn to create interactive web sites, including such features as imagemaps, Frame-sets, Cascading Style Sheets, forms, roll-overs, pop-up windows, sniffers and DHTML. Utilizing Flash, students will learn to enhance their web sites with exciting animation, video, sound and increased interactivity. Upon completion, the students will load their sites into their own web space, provided at NCC. Each student will have at least one fully functional web site, as a portfolio piece, by completion of the program.Students applying for admission must be knowledgeable about either Windows or Macintosh operating systems and have some working knowledge of Adobe PhotoShop and Illustrator. Hands-on instruction in basic HTML coding and the use and understanding of current web authoring applications such as Dreamweaver and Flash. The majority of work in this program will use Web-authoring applications, and will not focus on the use of HTML.Your Web design skills will be developed using state-of-the art Macintosh computers, current digital scanning, printing and photography hardware, in a new digital lab. Practical experience will be gained by assignments geared to teach you how to solve design problems for the Web. Close student-teacher instruction, as well as interaction with professional Web designers is an added dimension to this program.
